"Staying in Sasom was a wonderful lesson in humility. After the first few hours of stumbling through daily life, you quickly come to terms with the fact that you will not do anything right, ever, and that, yes, those 4-year-old Thai girls are laughing at you. Once you make that realization, the rest of the stay is infinitely easier." - Rowan Cornell-Brown
"As we were leaving, I realized that their village would go on without us. Their lives, in these simple open houses lining the red dirt streets where the many children play together all day and doors are open to all neighbors and community - a wonderful community of survival. I realized how different our lives are from theirs and they are both valid and real and the truth." - Elisa Otter
Elisa and Rowan were members of the first group of Montpelier High School students (Vermont) to spend winter vacation in a rural, rice-farming village in Northeast Thailand. Montpelier to Thailand One traveled in 2005 and Sweet Mango Tours is currently recruiting for M2T5. Students from Vermont's Woodstock High School recently returned from a study tour to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Using Sweet Mango's diverse and strong connections in Southeast Asia, itineraries can easily be designed to support school/academic learning. Contact us and/or go to Vermont to Thailand's Website to learn more.
These educational adventures are offered through the Sweet Mango Fund for Cultural Exchange, a non-profit that supports individual and group efforts to learn and grow through travel. If you are interested in a custom-designed, meaningful travel experience for young people that you care about, please contact us. We would love to open up their world with you.
