Tour: Sweet Mango to the Amazon
| Country: | Brazil |
| Dates: | To be determined |
| Price: | $2,250.00 (what's included) |
Sweet Mango to the Amazon is an exotic adventure deep into the Amazon rain-forest in northwest Brazil. The 450,000 acres of the Xixuau-Xiparina Reserve, 32 hours up the Rio Negro from Manaus, are a bit of the 30% of Amazonian forest still untouched by human activity. Our hosts are Xixuau village residents, and the Amazon Association, a non-profit formed in 1992 by the native inhabitants of the region to improve their quality of life while protecting the incredible environment.
How it works:
A ten to eighteen-day journey can be designed for your group with preparations beginning six to seven months prior to departure. Monthly planning parties and weekly check-ins, Portuguese language lessons, group planning work, fund-raising and publicity lead to a traveling community, eager to have the best time possible and armed with knowledge of the region and the people who will host us.
Participants must be 17 years or older, brave, curious, hard-working and kind. The itinerary includes hiking and camping in the jungle, paddling with dolphins, tracking local wildlife, learning about rain-forest life, and a service project that we, as a group, will define with our non-profit partner, The Amazon Association, based on the needs and wishes of the community.
